CentroMed

On Aug. 14, from 9:00-2:00, we'll be issuing library cards and handing out information about our services at District 4's Back-to-School fair. It takes place at CentroMed, 9011 Poteet-Jourdanton Highway. We had over 3,000 people at last year's event, so this one's likely to be huge!

HERO

We'll be distributing information about our databases and our Homework Help service at the SA HERO (that's Home Education Resources and Opportunities) conference on July 24 at the University of the Incarnate Word.

San Antonio History in Photographs

In conjunction with our usual visit to Casa Helotes on July 27, we'll be bringing a special guest with us: Frank Faulkner, Jr., author of "San Antonio History in Photographs." Mr. Faulker, who is the manager of San Antonio Public Library's Texana/Genealogy Department, will discuss his book and will tell stories of local history. His talk begins at 1:00. Come on over to Casa Helotes (12070 Leslie Rd. in Helotes) and listen to some rollicking tales of our founding fathers and mothers!

A Word from the Mayor

In an interview broadcast yesterday on Texas Public Radio, Mayor Castro said this about libraries: "Libraries are an essential component--a real weapon, if you will, a positive weapon--for the City in terms of boosting up the literacy and education level of young people, especially, so I see them as the City's best chance to supplement the work of our school districts."
